By using GardenDecoded you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

1. What we provide

GardenDecoded is a free educational reference about plants and gardening, provided by GardenDecoded. We may change, suspend, or withdraw any part of it at any time.

2. Accuracy and limits

Botanical data is mirrored from third-party open datasets and may contain errors or be out of date. Growing guidance is our own opinion based on general horticultural practice — plants behave differently in different soils, climates and situations.

Nothing on this site is professional horticultural, agricultural, veterinary, or medical advice. In particular, do not rely on this site to decide whether a plant is safe to eat, handle, or plant where children or animals have access. Toxicity information is indicative only. Check an authoritative source and seek qualified advice.

3. Content ownership

  • Botanical data is published by World Flora Online under CC0 and is free for anyone to reuse.
  • Photographs remain the property of their photographers and are used under CC0 or CC BY licences. If you want to reuse a photograph, use it under its own licence and credit the photographer shown — not us.
  • Our growing guidance, page text, design and code are the property of GardenDecoded. You may quote short extracts with a link back. You may not copy the guidance wholesale, or scrape the site to build a competing database.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use automated tools to place unreasonable load on the site, or to bulk-download its content.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its infrastructure.
  • Use the contact form to send spam, abuse, or anything unlawful.

If you want the underlying botanical data in bulk, take it from World Flora Online and GBIF directly. It is free, it is CC0, and it will not put load on our server.

5. Advertising and affiliate links

The site carries advertising and may contain affiliate links, from which we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. We do not control the content of third-party adverts and are not responsible for goods or services bought through them.

6. Liability

The site is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, GardenDecoded is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of it, or from reliance on any information on it. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
