Privacy Policy

This policy explains what GardenDecoded collects when you use GardenDecoded, why, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal padding.

What we collect

• Nothing to browse. You do not need an account to search plants or read guidance. We do not ask for your name, email address, or location to use the site.
• Contact form. If you write to us, we store the name, email address, subject and message you submit, along with your IP address, so we can reply and so we can deal with abuse. Nothing more.
• Server logs. Our web host records standard request logs (IP address, page requested, timestamp, browser user-agent) as part of operating the service.
• Page view counts. We increment a per-plant counter so we know which species to write guidance for next. This is a single number per plant and is not linked to you.

Cookies

GardenDecoded sets one cookie of its own — a session cookie, used only to keep the contact form's security check working and to sign administrators in. It is removed when you close your browser.

Our advertising partners set their own cookies. See the next section.

Advertising

This site is funded by advertising, including Google AdSense and affiliate links. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Third parties we load

Rendering a page on this site involves requests to:

• Google Fonts — typefaces.
• jsDelivr — the Bootstrap CSS and JavaScript framework.
• Google AdSense — advertising, where enabled.

Plant photographs are copied to our own server and served from this domain, so viewing a plant page does not send a request to the image's original host.

How long we keep things

Contact messages are kept while they are useful for handling your enquiry and any follow-up, and are deleted when they are not. Server logs are retained per our host's standard retention.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or the EEA, you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. In practice the only thing we are likely to hold is a contact form message. Ask us and we will deal with it.
